Glavel Achieves Industry-First Environmental Certifications for Foamed Glass Aggregate
Vermont-based Glavel has completed North America's first third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for foamed glass aggregate and earned a Declare label certifying its product as Red List Free. These certifications establish new transparency and material health standards for building materials in North America.
BURLINGTON, VT / ACCESS Newswire / February 11, 2026 / Glavel announced two environmental product certifications that reinforces the company's leadership in the insulation and fill materials industry. The company completed North America's first third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for foamed glass aggregate and received a Declare label certifying its product as Red List Free.
Glavel transforms recycled glass into a lightweight, high-performance aggregate known as foamed glass aggregate (FGA). Produced in a kiln powered by 100% renewable energy, Glavel's FGA is now used nationwide across infrastructure, commercial, and residential construction projects.
Industry-Leading Environmental and Material Health Certifications
Glavel has achieved two significant third-party certifications that set new standards for transparency and material health in the foamed glass aggregate category. The company produced North America's first third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for FGA with Pathways, providing transparent, standardized lifecycle data that enables architects and engineers to accurately document environmental performance and support compliance with LEED and embodied carbon reduction requirements.
Glavel also received a Declare label certifying its FGA as Red List Free, meeting the health and transparency standards of the International Living Future Institute's (ILFI) Living Building Challenge. This certification confirms the product contains none of the worst-in-class materials and chemicals identified by ILFI, reinforcing Glavel's commitment to both environmental sustainability and human health.
"This is our 4th year producing foamed glass aggregate, and over the past year we've seen significant momentum as the construction industry increasingly recognizes foamed glass aggregate as a standard building material," said Greg Erdmann, Chief Commercial Officer at Glavel. "Rob Conboy, our CEO, was among the first to apply embodied carbon principles to FGA production and help the industry understand both its environmental and technical advantages."
In conjunction with these certifications, Glavel also launched its newly redesigned website, www.glavel.com, featuring expanded technical resources, performance data, and case studies showcasing real-world applications. The website was developed by Glavel's marketing team in partnership with Clutch Creative of Burlington, Vermont.
